Amy Macdonald, one of Britain's most successful singer-songwriters, will be back at the Rockhal on 4 December 2012 after her prestigious performance in 2010. This time the Scottish singer-songwriter is in support of her new album “Life in a Beautiful Light” which went straight to number 1 in the German album charts on release and is currently in the top 5.
Amy’s orchestral performance of her albums “This is the Life” and “A Curious Thing” at the Rockhal in 2009 is still in our minds as a very exceptional performance together with the first class orchestra of the Saarland Broadcasting Corporation, which was even released as a live show CD. This ended in a quick sell out of the show but finally the fans of Amy can take a deep breath as she is returning to the Rockhal in Luxembourg with her most recent album “Life In a Beautiful Light” with which she has gone gold in Germany by selling 100.000 copies in the first few weeks.
Amy Macdonald has been famous since the age of 18, when she burst in to the charts with the debut album, “This Is The Life”, that bore the hallmarks of her homeland. Rootsy folk-rock might describe it, or just gutsy pop played on real instruments. Six years on, Macdonald insists that little has changed. She looks sleeker and dresses smarter, she has bought her own home and the band she is travelling with feels like a second family. Before starting to work on her latest album, Amy won the 2011 Echo award for best international female artist beating artists like Adele, Katy Perry, Pink and Rihanna.
Macdonald’s great gift is not only to capture emotions in her songs, but also to describe real events in a way that relates to the lives of her fans, be they in Britain or abroad. “Life In A Beautiful Light” does precisely what the title suggests, it’s a life-affirming set of songs steeped in optimism. The 24 year old is as full of life as her songs, or perhaps her songs are simply reflecting her own happiness. She has never felt better about being a singer, and never sung better.
“Life In A Beautiful Light” was recorded in two sessions in Surrey with Macdonald’s long time producer Pete Wilkinson. Earlier this year, Bob Clearmountain, who worked on Macdonald’s debut, mixed the album. “It’s always good to have a man who mixes Bruce Springsteen,” says Macdonald, a Springsteen devotee. Further she adds, “I like the simple life. I like songs you can sing along to, songs that say something. Oh, and driving cars. And running in the sunshine, listening to great music. Although living in Glasgow, I’m usually running in the rain.”
