Kentucky Repertory Theatre announces that it has appointed New York Theater director, Christopher Carter Sanderson as its Executive Director. Sanderson gained recognition as the founding artistic and producing director of Gorilla Rep and has served that company's populist mission since its inception in 1992.

Mr. Sanderson said today, "I want every child and adult in the Horse Cave, Hart County and surrounding area to know that their theatre can create and host world-class productions as we build on the 35-year success of Kentucky's rural professional theatre, Kentucky Rep. I am extremely excited to serve Kentucky Rep's compelling mission."

Kentucky Rep Board President Temple Dickinson said, "The Board is excited to have someone of Sanderson's caliber and credentials, but even more excited by his passion and love for live theatre. We're thrilled to have him."

Under Sanderson's leadership, Kentucky Rep is set to transition from a limited season to year-round programming of original theatrical productions as well as the presentation of concerts, dance works, art exhibits, related lectures, workshops, educational tours and programs and theatrical co-productions. Co-productions of Sanderson's "Woyzeck Musical Deathmetal" with Chicago's Woyzeck Festival and Shakespeare's "Macbeth" with Gorilla Rep presenting in New York City's Ft. Tryon Park are already in the works.

Mr. Sanderson holds a BFA in Acting from NYU, an MFA in Directing from The Yale School of Drama, is a recent Fulbright grantee, and has received dozens of accolades in national mainstream media. His book, "Gorilla Theatre" (Routledge 2003) is an original, definitive statement on free, outdoor theatre and is used in curricula throughout the world. Mr. Sanderson has produced over 80 productions for Gorilla Rep, including a dozen original productions.
