Kentucky Center Governor's School for the Arts Alum and Pentatonix Member Kevin Olusola Wins 2015 GRAMMY Award

By:

The Kentucky Center Governor's School of the Arts continued the rich tradition of helping to produce great young Kentucky-born/based artists with alumni Kevin Olusola winning a Grammy for the Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella category for his group, Pentatonix's, medley titled "Daft Punk." The award was presented during the 57th Annual Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony, prior to the live broadcast of the awards show on CBS.

The song, a medley of hit songs by pop duo Daft Punk, mashes up several of their tracks, including "One More Time," "Get Lucky," and "Digital Love," among several others.

The song was recorded in a bedroom closet and the video was filmed in a kitchen, according to Pentatonix member Scott Hoying, in his acceptance speech. With "That's Christmas to Me," Pentatonix has become the only act, besides Taylor Swift and Sam Smith, to sell more than one million copies on the year.

Olusola attended Owensboro High School and graduated from Yale University with a degree in East Asian Studies. Olusola attend The Kentucky Center Governor's School for the Arts in the summer of 2004.

In 2011, Pentatonix won the popular NBC a cappella reality competition show "The Sing-Off". Since then, the group has amassed a large following, primarily through social media, using videos on YouTube and Twitter to expand their reach.
