Tarmo Peltokoski leads an evening with Nordic flair. The Filipino-Finnish conductor brings two works by Finland’s greatest composers, opening with music by Kaija Saariaho and closing with Sibelius’ Second Symphony, a work that the Dutch newspaper RNC called “nothing less than a miracle” and “staggering, breathtaking, tear-jerkingly beautiful” when Peltokoski recently performed it. Cuban-Finnish artist Anton Mejias continues the northern European theme with the Norwegian Edvard Grieg’s tour-de-force and wildly popular Piano Concerto.
