The Los Angeles Philharmonic 2012/13 season has been announced. Season highlights include: 

Mozart/Da Ponte Trilogy - Dudamel and the LA Phil continue this innovative project with The Marriage of Figaro, using a Paris-based design team of architect Jean Nouvel (installation) and costumes by couturier Azzedine Alaïa.

The Gospel According to the Other Mary – Dudamel conducts the fully staged production of LA Phil Creative Chair John Adams’ new oratorio, directed by Peter Sellars.

Where the Wild Things Are – Dudamel leads Oliver Knussen’s one-act opera based on Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s book in a new production that uses innovative technologies to combine live images of the performers with Sendak’s artwork. (Co-production with the Barbican, London and the Aldeburgh Festival.)

Beethoven with Andsnes – Dudamel and Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes launch a three-year exploration of Beethoven’s music for piano and orchestra.

Esa-Pekka Salonen – Conductor Laureate Salonen celebrates the 100 th anniversary of the birth of Lutos?awski with the LA Phil and brings the Philharmonia Orchestra from London for a concert performance of Alban Berg’s opera Wozzeck.

Zubin Mehta returns to the Los Angeles Philharmonic to celebrate the 50 th anniversary of his becoming the orchestra’s Music Director; later in the season he brings the Israel Philharmonic with soloist Yuja Wang.

Brooklyn Festival – A celebration of the contributions of Brooklyn artists to American music, from Aaron Copland to Samuel Adams, with newly commissioned scores from Ted Hearne and Matt Marks, as well as a major work by Tyondai Braxton.

Focus on Peter Eötvös – A residency of Hungarian composer Peter Eötvös, including the world premiere of his Concerto for Violin and Chamber Orchestra co-commissioned by the LA Phil, the Leipzig Gewandhaus and the BBC, performed by Midori, and the West Coast premiere of his opera Angels in America.

Bach Keyboard Cycle – András Schiff launches a survey of the complete solo keyboard works of J.S. Bach in six recitals over two seasons.

Wayne Shorter & Esperanza Spalding – The world premiere of a co-commissioned piece by jazz legend Wayne Shorter composed for Grammy-winning bassist Esperanza Spalding with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Commissions & Premieres - 9 new commissions, 7 world premieres, 3 U.S. premieres and 4 West Coast premieres

Tour - Three programs including John Adams’ The Gospel According to the Other Mary will be presented in London, Paris, New York and Lucerne in March 2013.
