Workshops Of Matt Sax & Eric Rosen's VENICE Begin 4/15

By:

“Venice” by Matt Sax and Eric Rosen will be presented at the Center Theatre Group/Kirk Douglas Theatre in three staged workshops for the public beginning this Wednesday, April 15 at 8 p.m. and continuing on Thursday, April 16 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 18 at 8 p.m.

Directed by Rosen, “Venice” is a Hip-Hop musical about betrayal and politics set in a post-war, not too-distant future, and is loosely based on Shakespeare's “Othello.” Sax and Rosen are the team who brought the West Coast premiere of “Clay” to the Douglas Theatre in 2007. “Venice” was commissioned by Center Theatre Group.

“Venice” features (in alphabetical order) Malcolm Barrett, Bryan Terrell Clark, J.D. Goldblatt, Nia Renee Hill, Kelly Karbacz, Melina Lizette, Victoria Platt, Brett Ryback, Cedric Sanders, Matt Sax and Talia Thiesfield.

Josh Horvath is the sound designer and music producer, Steve Landau is the musical director, lighting is by Henry Sume and choreography by Ken Roht. Casting is by Bonnie Grisan and Joyce Davidson is the production stage manager.

Post-show discussions will be held after each workshop presentation of “Venice.”

Tickets to “Venice” are priced at $20 for general admission seating and are available by calling (213) 628-2772 or online at www.CenterTheatreGroup.org or in person at the Douglas Theatre box office beginning at 6 p.m. on each workshop presentation date.

DouglasPlus was created with the goals of broadening the spectrum of what CTG can develop, produce and present at the Douglas, and fostering new work, new theatrical forms and new audiences.

Other events in the DouglasPlus programming included the works of mega-star Kirk Douglas, solo artist Mike Daisey and Los Angeles playwright Michael Sargent, along with a special youth theatre piece featuring an electro-luminescent wire dinosaur named Darwin.

Funding for DouglasPlus is provided by The James Irvine Foundation’s Artistic Innovation Fund and the Leading for the Future Initiative, a program of the Nonprofit Finance Fund, funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

The Kirk Douglas Theatre is located at 9820 Washington Blvd., Culver City
