Wilson Cruz to Co-Host GLAAD Ceremony, 4/17

By:

The 21st Annual GLAAD Award Ceremony will be co-hosted by Broadway veteran Wilson Cruz and Candis Cayne.  The event will take place on April 17th at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.  Tickets begin at $300. For more information, call 877-519-7904 or visit www.glaad.org/mediaawards.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Drew Barrymore will be honored at the event with the Vanguard Award, presented to media professionals who have increased the visibility and understanding of the LGBT community.  Wanda Sykes will receive the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, presented to an openly LGBT media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equal rights.

Tony Award winner Alan Cumming will host GLAAD's New York ceremony at the Marriott Marquis on March 13th, which will honor Cynthia Nixon.

Cruz appeared on the popular television series "My So-Called Life" and received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Angel in the Broadway production of "Rent." He is in the recent film "He's Just Not that into You" opposite Drew Barrymore. Wilson won both a Young Artist Award and ALMA for his acting pursuits, and in 2008, received the prestigious Visibilidad Award from GLAAD.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is dedicated to promoting and ensuring fair, accurate and inclusive representation of people and events in the media as a means of eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation. The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives.
