Whodoo Theatre Productions Presents LADY LIBERTY, Closes 11/20

By:

Whodoo Theatre Productions will present the world premiere of "Lady Liberty," a new work by Los Angeles playwright Laura Richardson whose quirky comedy-dramas (and drama-comedies) have won critical acclaim and audience affection.

"Lady Liberty" runs Fridays through Sundays, Oct. 21-Nov. 20 at Actors Art Theatre, 6128 Wilshire Blvd,, No. 110, Los Angeles (between Fairfax and Crescent Heights). Shows are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 7 p.m. Sundays.

"Lady Liberty," set in a New York apartment with a small view of the head of the Statue of Liberty, is about three misfits who find each other, love each other and ultimately help each other find freedom.

With this new piece, Richardson continues to explore the messiness of life, often experienced by misfits, and the ultimate human connection needed to get through it.

The play is directed by Hilary Six, and in the cast are Judith Scarpone, Deana Barone, Matthew Horn and Richard Ogawa.

Richardson is a prolific playwright with a string of recent successes on Los Angeles stages. Her "Do Do Love" at the Open Fist Theatre received a Los Angeles Times Critic's Choice, saying Richardson's "acidic love story is no less than cathartic, a surprisingly sweet testament to the redemptive qualities of love."

Her "Come Back, Little Horny" at The Lost Studios garnered a WOW! In Stage Scene L.A. and her most recent play, "Life on this Couch," premiered at The Open Fist as part of the First Look Festival this summer.

Her one-woman show, "Sweety's Big Experiment," had its world premiere in Los Angeles at Actors Art Theatre where it garnered an L.A. Weekly "Critics Pick of the Week."

Richardson's play "Chronic Pain" ran at the award-winning Theatre East; "Life Eats Mikey" and "Kitty Cornered" were both recognized by the Writer's Digest and Writer's Network play contests; and her screenplay, "Do Do Love," placed in the Scriptapalooza contest.

Along with writing, Richardson is also an actor and has done theater in L.A., including the world premieres of Horton Foote's plays, "Harrison, Texas" and "The Roads to Home," at The Lost Studios, and the Critic's Pick, "Curse of the Starving Class," at The Open Fist Theatre. Film and TV credits include Law and Order, LA, The Event, Desperate House Wives, The Boarder, Shattered Illusions, Windfall, Invisible Man, Judging Amy, and Jack and Bobby.

She is a graduate of Playhouse West, holds a B.A in Theatre Arts, and is a member of Open Fist Theatre, Actors Art Theatre, and The Dramatists Guild. www.laurarichardson.net
