WONDERFUL TOWN to Open Musical Theatre Guild's 2013-14 Season at Moss Theatre, 11/17

By:

Musical Theatre Guild, the winner of the Los Angles Drama Critic's Circle Margaret Harford Award for sustained excellence in the theatre, will present WONDERFUL TOWN, the inaugural performance of their 2013-2014 season at the Moss Theatre at New Roads School in Santa Monica. The one-night-only concert will take place on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 7:00 pm.

The company of professional performers, who present concert-staged readings of seldom seen musicals, has been a resident company at the Alex Theatre in Glendale for many years and at Pasadena Playhouse before that. Due to an upcoming major renovation project at the Glendale venue, the decision to branch out to Los Angeles' Westside seemed a natural progression for this highly acclaimed and award-winning group.

With a score by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green and a book by Joseph A. Fields and Jerome Chodorov, WONDERFUL TOWN tells the story of two sisters: Eileen and Ruth. Eileen is a beautiful innocent from Ohio seeking fame as an actress on Broadway. Ruth is Eileen's older sister, who wants to be a writer, but must protect Eileen from the unspeakable evils and dangers they're sure they'll find in New York City in 1935. WONDEFUL TOWN won five 1953 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Actress. With a score that includes "A Little Bit in Love", "One Hundred Easy Ways (To Lose a Man)", "Wrong Note Rag" and "Ohio", why, oh why, oh why-oh? Why would you miss the first Leonard Bernstein show that MTG has ever presented?

Starring as Eileen and Ruth are Kristi Holden and Lowe Taylor with fellow MTG company members Eydie Alyson, Will Collyer, Pamela Hamill, David Holmes, Damon Kirsche, Roy Leake, Jr., Ashley Fox Linton, Jennifer Malenke, Jeffrey Scott Parsons, Mark Reis and Michael Shepperd plus guest artists Jules Chavarria, Justin Jones, Matt Merchant, Tony Trowbridge, Daniel Switzer, Justin Michael Wilcox and David Zack rounding out the large cast. WONDERFUL TOWN will be directed by Lewis Wilkenfeld, choreographed by Lee Martino, musical directed by Dean Mora and is under the production supervision of Erik McEwen.

The Moss Theatre at New Roads School is located at 3131 Olympic Blvd. in Santa Monica. Tickets are available by logging ontowww.musicaltheatreguild.com or by calling 818- 848-6844.

The Musical Theatre Guild's 18th Anniversary season continues with the Los Angeles premiere of DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY (February 9, 2014) RUTHLESS (April 6, 2014) and CITY OF ANGELS (June 15, 2014).
