Susan Isaacs' ANGRY CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD to Premiere in Los Angeles This September

When Susan, a "40-something Hollywood actress, finds herself jobless, loveless and living over a garage, she begins to question her faith. After an uptight church friend tells her to think of God as her husband, Susan sarcastically decides takes God to marriage counseling to see if they can keep it together 'for better or worse.'"

Thus begins “Angry Conversations with God: The Solo Show,” written by and starring Susan E. Isaacs (“Seinfeld,” “Parks and Recreation,” “My Name is Earl”). The comedy, based on Isaacs’ critically acclaimed book, “Angry Conversations with God: A Snarky but Authentic Spiritual Memoir” (FaithWords), will premiere at Two Roads Theater in Studio City, California, September 14, under the direction of Matthew Corozine.

“I have been testing material for this show in front of religious and secular audiences, and I am excited about its wide appeal,” Isaacs said. “People of all religious stripes have loved it, because they relate to the spiritual journey. Still, you don’t have to be spiritual to ask deep questions: What’s my purpose? What is my heart’s deepest longing? What do I do with tragedy? Well, in my case, middle-class white-girl’s tragedy.”

Both irreverent and devout, “Angry Conversations” is based on Isaacs’ personal and professional conflicts, including alcoholism, eating disorders, dysfunctional relationships, and what she calls “corporate Churchianity.” Publisher’s Weekly named it a Top Ten Religion Book of 2009, calling it “funny, biting, earthy and brilliant.”

The book has garnered praise from other publications and celebrities, as well. Comedian Jim Gaffigan (“My Boys,” “That ‘70s Show”) said, “Susan’s brilliant comic idea of taking God to couples therapy is a terrific framework for the story of her personal journey of faith.”

Eric Metaxas, author of “BONHOEFFER: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy,” and speaker at President Obama’s 2012 National Prayer Breakfast, called Isaacs’ work “a brilliantly funny, fearlessly honest, and deeply moving account of one woman’s search for God and man. Not necessarily in that order.”

“Angry Conversations” director Matthew Corozine has been directing and coaching for over a decade and is the founder of the MCS Studio Theater in Times Square. He recently was the featured acting coach on MTV’s “MADE: Dream Bigger.”

Isaacs holds an MFA in screenwriting from the University of Southern California and has taught screenwriting at Pepperdine University, in addition to writing and performance classes at Azusa Pacific University. She has contributed essays to American Public Media’s nationally syndicated radio show “Weekend America.” She has also appeared in many commercials and TV series.
