Stroili's 'Straight Up with a Twist' to Perform at LA Comedy Festival

By:

Following sold-out runs in Los Angeles and Chicago, and a twice-extended Off-Broadway run in New York earlier this year, Paul Stroili’s Straight Up with a Twist has been invited to open and close the 2008 Los Angeles Comedy Festival November 7 and 23 with a third performance added on November 10, 2008.

Nominated for a 2006 Los Angeles Ovation Award for Best Solo Show, two LA Weekly Awards and recipient of an OC Weekly Award, Straight Up with a Twist is the hysterical-but-true tale about “that straight guy you’ve always wondered about.” Paul Stroili plays all the members of his eccentric family as they try to understand this “Renaissance Geek… a happily-married guy who can’t work power tools but can perfectly fold a fitted sheet.” Called “Very, very, very, very funny” by National Public Radio and “Consistently brilliant” by the OC Register, The Millrock Company is delighted to present this one-act, “festival version” of the award-winning comedy.

Stroili’s film and TV credits include Malcolm in the Middle, Brother’s Keeper, The Untouchables, Cold Justice and most recently, the pilot, Help Us. His stage credits include A Christmas Twist and Of Grapes and Nuts (ACE Award-winners), Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Lovers and Keepers, Sister Bernie’s Bingo Bash, Dark Ride and the role of Vinnie Black in the original Chicago production of Tony ‘n Tina’s Wedding.  As a playwright, credits include Cheese Louise, My Dinner with Arlecchino, The Day the Arts Stood Still and of course, Straight Up with a Twist. His writing has also appeared in Los Angeles Magazine, NY Blade Magazine and the Chicago Tribune.  Currently, Mr. Stroili is the Managing Director of the Los Angeles-based theatre company Seaglass Theatre.

Straight Up with a Twist prompted The Hollywood Reporter to say “The talented and sophisticated Stroili hilariously embodies all the characters in his vibrant life. His performance is engaging, thoughtful and full of rich humor… a blend of Tim Allen and Woody Allen.”
