Upright Cabaret producer Chris Isaacson announced yesterday that due to a sell-out of his original run, Concord Recording Artist and current Artist in Residence Spencer Day will add an additional performance on Tues, April 13, 2010 at 9pm.

Drawing vocal comparisons to Michael Buble and John Mayer, and his compositions to those of Cole Porter, Paul Simon and Rufus Wainwright, Spencer Day's residency will feature performances from his adventurous album Vagabond (Concord Records), currently a Billboard Top 10 Contemporary Jazz Album, as well as past favorites from previous releases. Through his residency at The Upright Cabaret, Spencer will join an esteemed group of diverse talent who have played at the venue including American Idol's Adam Lambert, Glee star Lea Michele, Neil Patrick Harris, Grammy Nominee Taylor Dayne and many more.

Vocalist-songwriter-pianist Spencer Day is an artistic vagabond, a modern-day musical nomad. Born in Utah and raised in rural Arizona, Day is currently living in Los Angeles with extended residencies in New York and San Francisco. Day has wandered amid the diverse landscape of American music, developing an artistic sensibility that borrows from jazz, musical theater, cabaret, soul, folk and pop. He uses intuition and improvisation as his primary tools to craft a sound that is youthful yet mature, fresh yet familiar, creating a blend that both defies and celebrates convention simultaneously.

"I wanted to create a musical hybrid - a sound that could stand alone and not be easily put into one category, but at the same time appeal to a broad range of listeners," says Day. "I've drawn from the Great American Songbook quite a bit in the past, but I really wanted to infuse this album with a more contemporary aesthetic, and also draw on some influences from the early '60s."

Spencer Day's second Thursday evening date in residency at the Upright Cabaret on March 18th will be in partnership with Feeding America (www.feedingamerica.org) with all proceeds from that night benefiting the national hunger awareness and prevention organization. Additionally, proceeds from the online sales of Day's track "Better Way" will also benefit Feeding America for the next three months, available at www.concordmusicgroup.com/Spencerday. "Feeding America is an invaluable service for people who are trying to get their life together but are struggling to cope with the increasingly high cost of living," says Day. "I am involved because I know what it feels like to go to sleep hungry, not knowing when or how the next meal is coming."

The aforementioned itinerant lifestyle of Day's youth is very much a part of Vagabond - his third release in five years, following the self-distributed Introducing Spencer Day (2004) and Movie of Your Life (2005). "That was the concept that I wanted to convey here - the idea of leaving home, going out and finding myself outside of those familiar contexts," Spencer says. "I wanted to make that a universal theme that people could relate to.

Spencer Day has an impressive recording and touring history. In the past year alone, he has opened for Rufus Wainwright at the Napa Valley Opera House and appeared at both the Monterey Jazz Festival and the Tanglewood Jazz Festival. Day performed at numerous Jazz Festivals across the country, and has been a recurring headliner in a number of high-profile Bay Area clubs, including Yoshi's, the Plush Room, the Great American Music Hall and the Herbst Theatre. On the opposite coast, he has earned raves for performances at the Town Hall, Joe's Pub and the Canal Room in New York City, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Spencer Day is managed by STILETTO Entertainment.

Spencer Day will take up residency at the Upright Cabaret for four performances on March 11th, 18th, 25th and April 1st 2010 with a fifth show added on Tues, April 13, 2010 at 9pm. Showtime is 9pm on all evenings, with Dinner/Drink specials beginning at 7pm.
