Smokey Robinson Makes His Orchestral Debut with the LA Phil at the Hollywood Bowl, 7/20-21

Smokey Robinson, "King of Motown," returns to the Hollywood Bowl stage for his orchestral debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic led by Sarah Hicks, Friday and Saturday, July 20 and 21, at 8 pm. The multiple-award winning vocalist, whose music industry career has endured for more than half a century, last appeared at the Hollywood Bowl in 2010 as part of the Jazz at the Bowl series.

The first half of the concert features orchestral selections by Bernstein, Mancini and Gershwin performed by the LA Phil under the direction of Hicks. For the second half, Robinson along with his background singers, dancers and band, join the LA Phil and Hicks for orchestral arrangements of some of Robinson's most popular tunes such as "I Second that Emotion," "Tears of a Clown," and "Ooh Baby Baby." Robinson and his band close the show.

Robinson's background singers, band and dancers are as follows: Karri Benoit, background singer; Robert Bowles, guitar; Harold "Tony" Lewis, drums; Gary Foote, bass; James Pappas, musical director; S'Von Ringo, keyboards; Serena Henry, background singer; Tracie Burton, dancer; Linda Cevallos French, dancer; Kenneth Gioffre, flute / sax; and Amon Bourne, background singer.
