Reprise Theatre Announces Cabaret Competition
By: BWW News Desk
Reprise Theatre Company is presenting its first Reprise Cabaret Competition in conjunction with it's upcoming production of "Flora, The Red Menace" May 6-18, 2008. "Flora" is the very first musical collaboration from the legendary Broadway team, Kander & Ebb, and is set during the throes of the Depression. The action of the play is presented through the guise of a WPA theatre production. Reprise Theatre Company is presenting the Cabaret Competition to honor the show's close ties to the WPA Federal Theatre Project, which brought forth hundreds of new stage performers.
Contestants may submit their original songs (recorded on CD) by May 1st, 2008 to Reprise Theatre Company and win a chance to perform the song live in front of a packed house at the Freud Playhouse at UCLA. Finalists will be given a pair of tickets to see "Flora, The Red Menace" during its two week run, and will be chosen by May 6th to perform on the stage at the Freud before the May 10th 2:00pm matinee performance of "Flora." A Grand Prize winner, who will win a pair of season tickets to the 08-09 Reprise Theatre Company season, will be selected by audience vote prior to the performance. For more information on how to enter visit: www.reprise.org/cabaretcontestReprise's Front & Center Lecture Series will also be presented on May 10th at 12pm. UCLA Musical Theatre Professor Gary Gardner will be lecturing on the musicals of Kander & Ebb. The lecture is open to the public and no reservation is needed.
