Participants Sought for California Shakespeare Theater's Summer Camps
By: BWW News Desk Jan. 25, 2006
Cal Shakes is currently accepting registrations from students between the ages of 8 and 18 for its 5-week and 2-week camps; those who register before February 10 receive an Early-Bird Discount of $100 off the 5-week camp and $25 off the 2-week camp. Also of note -- every camper will receive a complimentary ticket to each production in Cal Shakes' 2006 mainstage season.
Students devote the mornings to theater classes taught by Teaching Artists and theater professionals in acting, improvisation, stage combat, voice, text, movement for actors, and dialects. The 5-week campers spend the afternoons rehearsing for a public performance of one of the same productions appearing on Cal Shakes' stage during the 2006 season: The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Merchant of Venice, or As You Like It. Students in the 2-week camp experience a condensed version of the 5-week camp, with a public performance of staged scenes from Cal Shakes' 2006 slate of plays.
The 2-Week Summer Theater Camp is supported in part by the West Contra Costa Public Education Fund.
Need-based scholarships are available; for more information or to register, call Erin Carter, Artistic Learning Coordinator, at 510.548.3422 ext. 127 or email Erin at learn@calshakes.org.
The schedule is as follows:
