NoHo Arts Center to Premiere SISSYBOY
HOW DID SISSYBOY GO FROM DANCER TO CANCER TO LIVING THE ANSWER
Sixty-one years in the making... okay not quite! James Mellon's solo play, "SissyBoy," premieres on stage at the NoHo Arts Center February 12th. NoHo Arts Center Artistic Director, James Mellon and Producing Director (and husband of 25 years) Kevin Bailey, have been developing "SissyBoy" for two years. But the play has ruminated in their minds from the time four years ago when James received his one-year "cancer free" notice from his doctor. Mellon's battle with stage four, throat cancer gave new perspective to his life.
Now, having reached the even greater milestone of five years "cancer free" - this seemed the perfect moment to celebrate the journey that starts with a precocious, seven-year old Catholic schoolboy to Broadway performer to Pastor.
ABOUT THE SHOW
Journey with James from the age of 7 to 61; from young Catholic school boy to Chippendales stripper; from performing with drag queens to starring on Broadways; from party boy to parent; from dancer to cancer to living the answer. If it takes a big man to cry - it takes an even bigger man to be a... SissyBoy.
