Musical Theatre Guild Presents Staged Reading Of 'STOP THE WORLD' 9/14 & 9/20

By:

The award-winning Musical Theatre Guild, a company of professional performers who present concert-staged readings of seldom seen musicals, will open its 14th season with the 1962 Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley musical: STOP THE WORLD - I WANT TO GET OFF. The opening performance will take place on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 7:30 PM at the historic Alex Theatre in Glendale. A second, and final, performance will occur on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at 3:00 PM at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza's Scherr Forum.

Set in the non-stop circus of life, STOP THE WORLD - I WANT TO GET OFF focuses on the iconic Littlechap, whose first major step towards improving his lot is to marry his boss' daughter, Evie. After romancing Anya, Ilse and Ginnie (funny how they all look like Evie), Littlechap comes to ultimately realize that what he always had was what he wanted all along. The richly and melodiously packed score includes "Once In a Lifetime", "Gonna Build A Mountain" and "What Kind of Fool Am I?"

In the two leading roles are Justin Robertson as Littlechap and Tracy Lore as Evie with Robin deLano, Jennifer Gordon, Melissa Lyons, Brandon Michael Perkins, Jeffrey Polk, Jennifer Shelton and Heather Hoppus-Werner rounding out the cast. STOP THE WORLD - I WANT TO GET OFF will be directed by Douglas Clayton with musical direction by Ron Colvard, choreography by Joe Giamalva and is produced for MTG by Scott Dreier and Michelle Duffy.

The Alex Theatre is located at 216 North Brand Blvd. in Glendale. Tickets are available at the Alex Theatre box office, or by calling 818-243-ALEX. The Scherr Forum at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza is located at 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd., in Thousand Oaks. Tickets to this venue are available by calling Ticketmaster at 805-583-8700, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by visiting a Ticketmaster outlet. The Musical Theatre Guild 2009-2010 season continues with a trio of shows from the early sixties; FADE OUT - FADE IN (November 9 & 15, 2009), HIGH SPIRITS (February 22, 2010) and IRMA LA DOUCE (April 18 & 25, 2010), and concludes with a special event in conjunction with the Ring Festival LA, DAS BARBECÜ (June 14, 2010).
