ABOUT LOBBY HERO

Lobby Hero is a modern-morality tale set in a Manhattan high-rise apartment lobby. When a horrific murder is committed, a hapless young security guard, his straight-laced supervisor, a veteran police officer and his feisty rookie partner are all challenged "to do the right thing"-if only they could figure out what the "right thing" is. A hit of the 2001 off-Broadway season, "Lobby Hero" has a certain timeliness in its examination of the grey areas surrounding police, race, crime and sex. But, more importantly, there is a fantastic timeless-ness too, in the moral quagmire of right and wrong in which these characters find themselves.

"Lobby Hero is "a masterpiece. The best drama, the best comedy and the best romance of the year, all rolled into one" - Time Out NY

"Lobby Hero, a moving drama colored in shades of gray...in its tone and genre it defies easy description. It's a comedy, a romance and a play of ideas rolled into one." - The New York Times

"Lonergan's most smoothly plotted and most crowd pleasing play." - CurtainUP

FROM THE WRITER

Kenneth Lonergan: It's not that I wanted to write about the police, which I know nothing about firsthand. I was interested in somebody who's just trying to do their job and be a human being at the same time in an environment that makes it very difficult to be both. Other characters in the play struggle with that. So I was more interested in people dealing with an unfairly stacked deck than I was in specifically talking about New York City cops. Also it's about the difficulty and complexity of dealing with serious real-life issues, which police have to do all the time while the rest of us sit back and either think ill or highly of them and wonder what we would do if we were in their situation. That made it an attractive dramatic subject. It's a colorful, violent, interesting, and to the rest of us, exotic world.
