HB APA Recognized by Arts Schools Network as Exemplary School

By:

The Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts (HB APA) was recently recognized by the Arts Schools Network (ASN) as an Exemplary School. Tim Nelson, Chair of the Musical Theatre Department, will represent HB APA as Teacher of the Year at their Annual Conference in October.

The Exemplary School designation is presented to an ASN member school which meets the Network’s Principles of Exemplary Practice in strategically evaluating its purpose, operations, and educational programs. This designation indicates that the Huntington Beach Academy for Performing Arts has successfully completed a self evaluation in the following areas: strengths, areas for improvement, consistency with school-wide or program purposes, questions, new aspirations, and future challenges.

Because the foundation of an excellent arts education lies in the talents and dedication of outstanding artist mentors and teachers, the annual Teacher of the Year award recognizes an ASN member teacher whose dedication, talent, and achievement are exemplary. Mr. Nelson will be presented with the award during Arts Schools Network's annual conference in Chicago, October 16-19.

Dedicated to excellence and leadership in arts education, ASN is a dynamic resource for arts schools' leaders, innovative partners and members of arts education institutions. The non-profit professional association was founded in 1981. The organization's online communications and in-person gatherings offer inspiration, insight, advocacy, and support to our members. ASN also actively promotes and supports the development of new arts schools, facilities, and programs. ASN's mission is to promote excellence in arts education by inspiring and serving arts leaders, institutions and organizations

HB APA is a performing arts academy within a traditional High School setting, and a magnet program of the Huntington Beach Union High School District. HB APA's mission is to provide an extensive educational program which cultivates in students the discipline, dedication and commitment necessary to achieve excellence in the arts and to inspire youths to become artists and audiences of the future through academic, artistic and aesthetic education.
