Dark Comedy WAKE To Premiere At The Heartland International Film Festival Image

Mirrorcore Productions first feature film Wake. will enjoy its world premiere Saturday, October 13th, 2018 at the acclaimed Heartland International Film Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana. The film will be screened several times during the festival run from October 11th-21st, 2018. For more information and screening times please visit: www.wakethemovie.com.

Directed by Cyrus Mirakhor with a screenplay by Carey Crim (based on her play Wake). Wake. is a darkly comic tale of one woman's unusual and bizarre journey back to life after the loss of her husband. Wake. found great success as a stage play on its way to the big screen, enjoying a hit premiere at Jeff Daniels' Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea, Michigan followed by its West Coast premiere with Seaglass Theatre in Los Angeles. Seaglass Managing Director Paul Stroili immediately saw the potential of the play as a film.

"Paul, Archana Shinde and I had just founded Mirrorcore Productions," director Cyrus Mirakhor says, "we had great success with a few short films and were ready for a feature. Given this was our first full length film, we needed to find a story that we loved, but also one that could be made well within the limited budget of a beginning Production Company. Wake. was that script."

"(Playwright) Carey Crim worked with us for over a year developing the script for the screen," adds Mirakhor, "the film is more inspired by the play, rather than a straight retelling - but Carey remained true to her vision of these rich, embraceable characters, three generations of women living together in what becomes a very odd situation."

The film stars Myndy Crist (Criminal Minds, Six Feet Under, Code Black) and James Denton (Desperate Housewives, Good Witch, The Pretender) who serves as one of the Executive Producers, in addition to portraying the role of "Joe Frederickson."

"When James Denton signed on, things really started moving for us." Executive Producer Paul Stroili says, "Jamie and I have been friends for years, beginning with our days on the Chicago theatre scene in the 90's. He loved the script and he reads a lot of them. People who know him from television and film are going to see a character distinctly different from many of his previous roles, and he hit it out of the park."

Taking a break from his Break The Mold World Tour, the role of "Peter," Molly's deceased husband, is portrayed by Comedian Jo Koy (Chelsea Lately, Jo Koy: Live From Seattle). The film marks Koy's debut in an independent feature film. Koy recently received the prestigious "Stand-Up Comedian of the Year" award at the 2018 Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal.

Mirrorcore co-founder and Executive Producer Archana Shinde was especially delighted by securing Koy. "We were familiar with Koy, and knew he'd be great comedically, especially after seeing his Netflix special, but we were elated to see his take on the darker and more poignant aspects of his character. There will be far more acting roles in his future once people see him in Wake.."

The cast also features Daytime Emmy Award Nominee Paige Searcy (Days of Our Lives, Buried Secrets) Caroline Lagerfelt (Gossip Girl, The Blacklist, Gotham) and Paul Stroili (Empire, Chicago P.D., Malcolm in the Middle).

Mirrorcore Productions is a Film and Television Production Company based in Los Angeles.
