Center Theatre Group Presents DREAMGIRLS at the Ahmanson Theatre, 2/25-4/4

Center Theatre Group will present Dreamgirls, Music by Henry Krieger, Lyrics and Book by Tom Eyen, Directed and Choreographed by Robert Longbottom, and Co-Choreography by Shane Sparks. Dreamgirls will preview at the Ahmanson Theatre on February 25th, and opens on February 26th through April 4, 2010.

Full of onstage joy and backstage drama, Dreamgirls tells the rags-to-riches story of a 1960s girl group, and the triumphs and tribulations that come with fame and fortune. This new production will open at the legendary Apollo Theatre in New York prior to its engagement at the Ahmanson, as previously reported. This new production of Dreamgirls features the unforgettable hits "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going," "One Night Only," and the Oscar nominated "Listen."

For over 40 years the Ahmanson Theatre has presented a wide variety of dramas, musicals, comedies and classic revivals. The Ahmanson continues to present Broadway hits such as the exclusive Los Angeles engagements of the Tony Award-winning productions of Doubt, Jersey Boys and John Doyle's revolutionary production of Sweeney Todd as well as Cameron Mackintosh/National Theatre of Great Britain's award-winning production of My Fair Lady. For excellence in all phases of production, the Ahmanson has been honored with over 50 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards.

Initially under the artistic direction of Robert Fryer, then Gordon Davidson and now Michael Ritchie, the Ahmanson has played host to a veritable who's who in the entertainment world from Katharine Hepburn, ElizaBeth Taylor and Rex Harrison, to James Earl Jones, Lynn Redgrave and Cherry Jones. A unique, state-of-the-art 1995 reconfiguration provides the Ahmanson with variable seating capacity from 1,600 - 2,000, allowing the theatre to accommodate a greater variety of plays, from the intimate to the spectacular. It currently enjoys the largest theatrical season ticket base on the West Coast in a year-round season from early fall through late summer.
