Celebration Theatre announced today its 2011-2012 season of shows, under the new artistic direction of John Michael Beck. This is the Celebration's 29th season of shows. "On paper, you can't have four more different productions and yet the one word that encapsulates Season 29 for me is empowerment," comments Celebration Theatre's new Artistic Director John Michael Beck. "Whether it be a teenager going against family and the law to be himself or a trio of lovers wanting to live by their own moral code, these characters must stand up and be counted. We are thrilled to be presenting such an exciting season!"

The 2011-2012 Season will feature:
WHAT'S WRONG

WITH ANGRY

Written by Patrick Wilde
Directed by Michael Matthews
Opens Friday, September 9, 2011 (Previews September 7 & 8)

The 29th Season opens with What's Wrong With Angry?, directed by Celebration Theatre resident director Michael Matthews. WHAT'S WRONG WITH ANGRY was written at a time in British history when the age of consent for homosexuals was 5 years older than heterosexuals.

Legislation, called Section 28, prohibited schools and local authorities from depicting homosexual relationships as an acceptable view of family life. While school was a setting for romance with Mr. Popular, John Westhead , Steven Carter spent his life at home telling his parents what they wanted to hear. His fortunes take an unexpected turn when he discovers that his feelings for John are reciprocated; however, what's one to do when your family, school and country tell you your love isn't acceptable? In order to discover "it gets better", sometimes you gotta get ANGRY!

A visit by Leo, Otto's old friend and a successful playwright leads to an affair that upsets everyone's lives and leads to years of emotional turmoil. 'Design For Living is about...living by your own moral code, which is threatening to other people's standards but hurtful to no one but oneself." - New York Times

Who shared a jail cell with Robert Downey Jr. --- we'll give you three guesses, and the first two don't count. "He combines a writer's eye for detail with an actor's facility for mimicry and a stand-up comedian's knack for injecting spontaneity..." - New York Times
