CHAMELEON - A NEW MUSICAL to Make World Premiere at Hudson Theatre
Daisy Villegas' world premiere features a cast navigating identity and anxiety at Hollywood's Hudson Theatre.
CHAMELEON - A NEW MUSICAL will premiere this June in Hollywood with a series of performances at the Hudson Theatre MainStage. Performances will take place June 3 through June 7 at the Hudson Theatre MainStage in Hollywood.
The production features a book and concept by playwright Daisy Villegas, with music and lyrics commissioned for the musical by an anonymous composer.
Set in Whittier, California, at the fictional Villegas High School, the musical follows teen film actor Sam, who struggles under pressure from his demanding director father while preparing for a lead role. When fellow student Chase asks Sam to help cover up events from the previous summer, the two decide to switch lives for a week, leading to a story centered on identity, anxiety, and self-discovery.
The cast includes Donnie Sarabia as Chase and Tyler Vazquez as Sam, alongside Chima Rok, Delvin Harrington, Angelina Melendez, Dan Saunders, Mari Mar Lopez, Biola Fatusin, and Brenna Baines.
Daisy Villegas, who has been blind since birth and lives with Retinopathy of Prematurity, is a playwright and librettist focused on stories exploring identity and human connection. A graduate of Whittier College’s Creative Writing program, Villegas previously created How to Grieve Properly in addition to CHAMELEON.
The production is directed, designed, and produced by Benny Lee Harris Lumpkins Jr. Music direction is by Edward Trimis, with executive production by the Villegas family in association with Dai-See Productions. The lead producer is Benny Lumpkins Jr. of Lahser Rd. Theatricals.
