The Attic Studios presents Chekhov Mania: A Russian Vaudeville opening Friday September 21 at 8 PM, playing Fridays and Saturdays at 8PM through October 27 at the Attic Theatre (5429 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles, CA).  Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by calling 323-525-0600.

"Anton Chekhov wrote several one-act plays for the Russian version of the Vaudeville (variety) show.  These were broad comedies with broadly drawn characters, lots of yelling, and lots of laughing and crying done the way that only Chekhov could do," describe press notes, "What if a really far-out vaudeville troupe from way out in the hinterlands of Siberia, was to put on an evening's entertainment?  They'd bring in an Emcee, card girls, comedians, singers, even a live bear act, and combine it with three classic Anton Chekhov one-act plays to equal a zany evening of off-the-wall entertainment with a definite Russian flare.  Would that be something you'd like to sample?  What could be bad?!"

The three one-acts chosen to accompany the mad-cap vaudeville antics are The Boar, The Marriage Proposal and The Harmful Effects of Tobacco.  All three are directed by Attic Producing Director James Carey and produced by Christine Stumpov and Robin Royvich.  The vaudeville company includes Amber Flamminiovich, Jacqueline Axtonov, Doug Meyersovich, Mike Parkovich, Blanche Ramirezovich, Vesna Tolomanskavich, and, of course, Anton The Bear.
