Alan Bergman Brings IT'S DELIGHTFUL, IT'S DELOVELY to WHBPAC Tonight

By:

Acclaimed lyricist Alan Bergman will perform his best-loved songs and talk about his inspiration for the lyrics at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center tonight, July 28 at 8:30pm. Tickets are $70 - $90 and can be purchased at www.whbpac.org.

"You Don't Bring Me Flowers," "The Windmills of Your Mind," "How Do You Keep the Music Playing?" "The Way We Were" - these are the songs of our lives! But do you know who wrote the incredible lyrics to these well-known songs? You could say Marvin Hamlisch, Dusty Springfield or maybe Barbara Streisand, but you'd be wrong. In fact, the lyrics to these songs were written by one of the most respected names in the Great American Songbook, Alan Bergman. One-half of the Oscar-winning Alan & Marilyn Bergman duo, he's been creating unforgettable images with his lyrical mastery for over half a century.

In this special performance, Bergman will sing songs from his new album, Lyrically, Alan Bergman, and regale the audience with the intriguing stories behind the lyrics. It's an up-close-and-personal evening with the world's most distinguished lyricist for film, stage, television and concert performances.

Bergman's musical collaborators include a "who's who" of composers: Cy Coleman, Grusin, Marvin Hamlisch, Howard, Jones, Legrand, Henry Mancini, Johnny Mandel and John Williams, to name a few. Bergman's songs have been interpreted on film by such musical legends as Barbra Streisand, Ray Charles and Luciano Pavarotti.

In 1982, Bergman became the first lyricists to be nominated for three of the year's five Academy Award-nominated songs: "How Do You Keep the Music Playing?" ("Best Friends"), "If We Were in Love" ("Yes, Giorgio") and "It Might Be You" ("Tootsie"). The following year, he again received three nominations (two for songs and one for the score of "Yentl"). Bergman's song "Moonlight," performed by Sting in the film Sabrina, brought nominations for both a Golden Globe and an Oscar. "The Windmills of Your Mind" and "The Way We Were" received Golden Globes and "The Way We Were" earned two Grammys. His four Emmys are for "Sybil," "Queen of the Stardust Ballroom," "Ordinary Miracles" and "A Ticket to Dream."

Among his many honors, Bergman was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and subsequently received its Johnny Mercer Award. He also received the National Academy of Songwriters Lifetime Achievement Award.
