The Picture Show at Bay Street Theatre presents two upcoming classic films based on the work of Tennessee Williams. CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF will be shown on the big screen Friday, October 21 and A STREETCAR NAMES DESIRE will be presented on Saturday, October 22. Both films begin at 8 pm and are $5 at the door. CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF stars Paul Newman as Brick, an alcoholic former football player who drinks his days away while resisting the affections of his wife, Maggie, played by Elizabeth Taylor. Brick reunites with his father, Big Daddy (Burl Ives), who is dying of cancer which brings memories and revelations for both father and son. The film was directed by Richard Brooks in 1958. The film is the fifth Tennessee Williams play to reach the big screen.

A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE is also based on the 1947 Pulitzer Prize winning original play by Tennessee Williams. Vivien Leigh, Marlon Brando and Kim Hunter star in the film about a disturbed Blanche DuBois who moves to New Orleans to live with her sister. She is tormented by her brutish brother-in-law while her reality crumbles around her. The film was directed by Elia Kazan.
