TRUF Theater Company to Present NOT YOUR MAMA'S FAIRY TALES, 1/24-2/8

By:

The TRUF Theater Company presents Not Your Mama's Fairy Tales or: In Real Life, Everything Sucks, a trilogy of one acts with an irreverent spin on classic fairy tales, January 24 - February 8 at The Chain Theater, 21-28 45 Road, Long Island City. The Equity production is a 12-performance limited engagement featuring Little Red, Forever Neverland, and Weight of Wishing. Details and tickets are available at www.TheTRUF.org.

Little Red, by Billy Aronson (Rent, In the Middle of the Night) and directed by Paul Urcioli (Bridezilla Strikes Back - NY Fringe Festival Award Winner, Brian Parks' Suspicious Package at HERE) follows an adolescent Little Red Riding Hood as she discovers what she's truly looking for on the way to Grandmother's house: the irresistible Wolf.

Forever Neverland, by Mike Swift and directed by P. Adam Walsh, explores what happens when two lost boys never actually grow up, from atop the Ferris Wheel at Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch. Introducing a foul-mouthed Mary Martin and a chimpanzee named Bubbles, Forever Neverland is a journey of dark humor and realization about never coming-of-age.

Weight of Wishing, by Sarah Gallina and directed by Sharone Halevy, tells the story of Daisy, who has lived her entire life as if it were a fairy tale, only to discover that not everyone gets their happily ever after. Against the backdrop of a lost circus, The Weight of Wishing takes a closer look at why we come to expect, and perhaps even need, a happy ending.

"There are some not-too-subtle lessons in the play about the lengths to which we go to keep our children safe -- or rather, to keep them children," says Little Red director Paul Urcioli. "And some not-too-subtle things about growing up, becoming experienced, and growing old. If someone sees our play and still needs me to point them out - I'm happy to have them buy me a drink so we can talk all about it."

Not Your Mama's Fairy Tales or: In Real Life Everything Sucks is paired with The TRUF's new children's musical Pedro Pan, opening February 1st, which tells the story of Pedro, a young immigrant to the United States who must use friendship and hope to resist becoming a lost boy in his new home.
