Fire Island Pines, New York--Fire Island Pines Art Project (FIPAP) hosts a Laboy Day Weekend presentation of Tony Award-winning musical INTO THE WOODS, featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine, at Fradd Theatre, Whyte Hall, which runs until tomorrow, August 31. FIPAP is a non-profit organization, founded by Sylvan Cole and David Baker more than 25 years ago, which has been producing musical shows and revues that tap into talented people attracted to the Pines.
INTO THE WOODS presents both humorous and poignant twists on several of the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tale characters such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack of "Jack and the Beanstalk," and Rapunzel, among others. In the middle of the woods, these characters meet a baker and his wife, who are cursed by a wicked witch.
FIPAP's production of INTO THE WOODS, directed by Jason Blitman, features cast members David Ballard, Ryan Bell, Anna Ty Bergman, Steven Black, John Cassese, Cynthia Murray Davis, Mary T. Farrel, Eric Gunhus, Mike Hartstein, Heather Koren, Payl Martin Kovic, Nicole Lafountain, Dani Marcus, Jeffrey Meyer, Michael Francis Stromar, Luis Villabon, and Lise Zinn.
The creative team includes scenic designer Joey Mendoza, associate scenic designer Jessie Bonaventure, hair and make up designer Jennifer Kressler, projection designer Alex DeNevers, costume designer Zoe Allen, and musical director Lance Cruce, who conducts an 11-piece orchestra.
