By:

Fall 2014 theatre classes at John Engeman Theater at Newport are now open for registration.

Musical Theater I: DISCOVERY

(ages 4-6) The perfect opportunity for your young artist to discover the exciting world of musical theater. Students will have an opportunity to act, sing, and dance in an ensemble while learning all the fundamental skills necessary to a beginning performer. Theater games, ensemble vocals, movement exercises and beginning theatre dance techniques will all be part of this age-appropriate curriculum.

Monday 4:00-5:00p OR Saturday 10:00-11:00am

Musical Theater II: DEVELOPMENT

(Ages 7-9) The young actor will work toward developing the skills and tools used in Musical Theater. Acting, singing and dancing will all be explored. Actors will be introduced to solo work at this level while continuing to work on ensemble performances. Musical theater appreciation/history will also be emphasized to help your beginner Broadway star achieve a more comprehensive understanding of the art.

Monday 5:00-6:00pm OR Saturday 11:00am-12:00pm

Musical Theater III: PERFORMANCE

(Ages 10-12) In this performance level class, partner and small-group scene work will be added to the curriculum to lift the actor's skills to a new level. Intermediate dance technique and vocal instruction will be incorporated, and interaction between our Main Stage and Children's Theater performers will be used to facilitate an understanding of the skill set required of the professional musical theater artist. Performances will be cultivated and presented at the end of each session. Monday 6:00-7:00pm
