Jazz Guitarist Pat Metheny and Unity Group to Perform at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center on 8/3
Famed jazz fusion guitarist Pat Metheny and his Unity Group, featuring Chris Potter, Antonio Sanchez, Ben Williams & Giulio Carmassi, will perform at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center on Sunday, August 3 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $110, $135, $150 and are available online at www.whbpac.org.
With 20 Grammy Awards under his belt, world renowned jazz guitarist Pat Metheny is the most influential musician on the planet. Grounded in modern jazz, his improvisation on jazz fusion, swing and soft rock has redefined the genre and reinvented it for a new generation. Last year, for the first time since 1980, guitarist Pat Metheny recorded with a band that highlighted tenor saxophone. Unity Band, featured Chris Potter on sax and bass clarinet, longtime collaborator Antonio Sanchez on drums, and Ben Williams on bass. Now, Metheny has added another musician, multi-instrumentalist Giulio Carmassi, and christened the ensemble Pat Metheny Unity Group.
The Unity Group's first record, Kin (←→), debuted at #1 on Billboard Jazz Chart. The album "takes guitar-led improvisation to new aesthetic levels," says Mojo; Metheny's "eloquent guitar etching a kaleidoscope of sonic hues." Whether purely acoustic or searingly electric, powerfully intense or deeply contemplative, highly composed or totally improvised, there is always that unmistakable Metheny sensibility at work that has stood at the forefront of music for almost four decades.
