Bay Street TheatreCelebrates Black History Month All Of February

Bay Street Theatre is celebrating Black History Month in February with special programming throughout the month.

"One of the great things about running a theater is having the opportunity to offer programming that feels exciting and relevant to our community as well as satisfying our own artistic sensibilities," says Artistic Director Murphy Davis, "and we look forward to celebrating Black History month annually with varied, diverse, and entertaining programming."

Kicking off the celebration, The Picture Show presents Lena Horne in STORMY WEATHER on Friday February 4. The cost is $5 at the door. For the $25 "Dinner and a Movie" package, call The American Hotel at 631-725-3535 for reservations.

On Saturday, February 5, Harborfrost's Fire and Ice Day comes to Sag Harbor. Bay Street will present "Hot Jazz, Cool Afternoon," with a special lobby JAM SESSION concert from 3 - 6 pm that will be open to anyone that wants to come in from the cold. Hear local musicians play hot jazz. That evening, at 8 pm, The Legends Series continues with LEGENDS: MOTOWN, hosted by Joe Lauro. Vintage and rare clips of Motown music legends will be shown. Tickets are $15 and will be available at the door beginning at 7 pm.

The fun continues for Valentine's Day Weekend as The Picture Show presents Diana Ross as Billie Holiday in LADY SINGS THE BLUES, on Friday, February 11 at 8 pm. The film also features Billy Dee Williams. The cost is $5 at the door. The $25 "Dinner and a Movie" package is available for this event by calling The American Hotel at 631-725-3535 for reservations. On Saturday, February 12, enjoy GREAT AMERICAN MUSIC AND WORD, with Mamalee and Rose with Jane Hastay and Peter Martin Weiss; Andrina Smith; Jim Turner and more from 5:30 - 7 pm. The free concert is in celebration of Black History Month. Later that evening, enjoy a special Valentine's Day Film and Dance event with Diana Ross and Billy Dee Williams in the romantic drama MAHOGANY followed by DJ/Dance. The film starts are 8 pm. Tickets are $25 and will be available at the door beginning at 7 pm.

The Picture Show presents Sidney Poitier weekend beginning on Friday, February 18 with the film A PATCH OF BLUE, PORGY & BESS on Saturday, February 19, and A RAISIN IN THE SUN on Sunday, February 20.

Spike Lee Weekend will be presented by The Picture Show beginning Friday, February 25 with MALCOLM X followed by DO THE RIGHT THING on Saturday, February 26.

All of The Picture Show films for February start at 8 pm. Tickets are $5 at the door. The $25 "Dinner and a Movie" package includes a 3-course prix-fixe dinner, Picture Show movie ticket, and a box of popcorn. Sales tax, gratuities and alcohol are not included. This popular package sells out quickly so reservations are suggested by calling The American Hotel at 631-725-3535.
