BSP Opens AVENUE Q, 1/25
AVENUE Q, the bawdy and downright naughty Tony Award-winning musical by Robert Lopez, Jeff Marx, and Jeff Whitty opens at the State Theatre located at 109 N. Bay Street in downtown Eustis January 25 and will run through February 17. Called "one of the funniest shows you're ever likely to see" by Entertainment Weekly, AVENUE Q features a cast of humans and puppets who tell a story about trying to make it in New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account. This production is directed by Joel Warren, director of BSP's Second Stage Series. John deHaas is the musical director, and choreography is by Amanda Warren. AVENUE Q is generously sponsored in part by Kevco Construction Group.
AVENUE Q opened Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre in March 2003, where it gained rave reviews, and was extended four times. It won the 2003 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding New Musical, as well as a nomination for the 2003 Outer Critics Circle Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical award. It subsequently ran at the Golden Theatre before moving to Broadway. It received the 2004 Tonys for Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Musical Score.
This production has mature themes, content, and language. BSP stresses that it is for adults only, and is not for the faint of heart or the easily (or not-so-easily) offended.
Evening performances for AVENUE Q are at 8:00pm, matinees at 2:00pm. Tickets on Wednesdays and Thursdays are $18.00, all others $21.00. Student price is $11.00. Call the box office at 352-357-7777 for information or tickets, or purchase tickets online at baystreetplayers.org.
