Legendary R&B group The Manhattans will bring their doo-wop and soulful sounds to the Suncoast Showroom, June 18 and 19, each evening at 7:30 p.m.

Named after the cocktail of whiskey, vermouth and bitters, The Manhattans formed in the early 60s and were then led by Winfred "Blue" Lovett, who composed some of the groups biggest hits. Their first hit on the Billboard charts was in 1964 with the Top 20 song, "I Wanna Be (Your Everything)," the first of eight singles for the group, nearly all charting among the top 30.

Into the early 70's the group continued to release singles, but it was in 1972 and the release of the Lovett-penned "One Life to Live," which went to No. 3 on the US R&B charts, that their pop-friendly, smooth sound would really pay off. A follow up single, "There's No Me Without You" also topped at No. 3 on the charts. In the mid-70's, top-ten success happened again with "Don't Take Your Love" and "Hurt," but what was about to happen to the group, more than 10 years after they formed, is what catapulted them to super-stardom

In 1976, the release of "Kiss and Say Goodbye" became their first No. 1 hit, not only on the R&B charts, but also on the Pop charts, which made them proud as they to that point had only reached No. 37 on the Pop survey. It also became the second platinum single in history. Follow up hits include "I Kinda Miss You," "It Feels So Good to Be Loved So Bad," "We Never Danced a Love Song," and "Am I Losing You."

The recordings of "Shining Star," "Crazy" and the cover of Sam Cooke's "You Send Me" kept The Manhattans at the top of the charts into the early 80s and they continued to release new music throughout the 80s, into the 90s and also a single in 2001, "Nites Like This."

Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available starting from $15.95, plus tax and convenience fees and can be purchased by calling the Box Office at 702.636.7075 or visiting www.suncoastcasino.com.
