Super Summer Theatre has announced its 32nd annual lineup of shows under the stars featuring Ragtime, 110 in the Shade, Jesus Christ Superstar, the Jazz Festival featuring the Las Vegas Jazz Society and Johnny Guitar. This annual theatre series is a great place for friends and families to gather and catch a show in the beautiful mountain setting of Spring Mountain Ranch State Park.

Ragtime (June 13- 16, 20-23, 27-30)," based on the novel by E.L. Doctorow, is set in New York at the beginning of the 20th century. It chronicles the journeys of Coalhouse Walker, Jr., an immigrant entrepreneur and upper class family from New Rochelle, as their lives become irrevocably entangled. Featuring one of the most beautiful scores in musical theatre, Ragtime was the winner of 4 Tony Awards in 1998, including Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical. Ragtime is produced by Stage Door Entertainment," state press materials.

110 in the Shade (July 11-14, 18-21, 25-28) is based on the musical version of The Rainmaker by N. Richard Nash, music and lyrics by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt. 110 in the Shade "takes place in 1933 during the dust bowl in a small, drought-stricken town. The story focuses on Lizzie Curry, a spinster living on a ranch in the American southwest, and her relationships with local sheriff File, a cautious divorcé who fears being hurt again, and charismatic con man Bill Starbuck, posing as a rainmaker who promises the locals he can bring relief to the drought-stricken area."

Jesus Christ Superstar (August 8-11, 15-18, 22-25) "features the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Tim Rice. Jesus Christ Superstar illuminates the transcendent power of the human spirit with a passion that goes straight to the heart. The first rock opera, created as a concept album at the end of the turbulent '60s tells of Christ's final days dramatized with emotional intensity, thought-provoking edge and explosive theatrics."

The JAZZ Festival (September 7-8) is "two evenings of extraordinary music presented by the Las Vegas Jazz Society. On Friday, September 7, Jerry Lopez' Santa Fe and the Fat City Horns perform everything from Funk to Swing to Latin! And then on Saturday, September 8, Walt Boenig's Big Band will delight the audience with classic Standards and Original Compositions."

Johnny Guitar The Musical (Sept 13-15, 20-22), "based on the 1954 film, presents a rousing original score with the sounds of 1950's lounge, western, and rock & roll music combined. The setting is a small New Mexico mountain town, circa 1865. When a tall stranger, Johnny Guitar, with a secret past rolls in, the stage is set for a showdown unlike anything the Old West or Off-Broadway has ever seen."

Super Summer Theatre is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing affordable, high quality productions to the people of Southern Nevada. The outdoor theatre is located at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, in beautiful Red Rock Canyon, just 10 miles west on Charleston Blvd. from I-215.
