Theatre Lawrence Presents TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD

Theatre Lawrence opens Christopher Sergel's adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Harper Lee on Friday, April 8 with performances April 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23 at 7:30pm, and April 10 and 17 at 2:30pm. The play tells a story of race in the American South of the 1930's. Scout and her brother, Jem, are being raised by their widowed father, Atticus, and by a strongminded housekeeper, Calpurnia. A lawyer, Atticus is appointed to defend a black man accused of raping a white woman. The children struggle to understand what is happening, as the other citizens of the town turn against them. Atticus fights his legal battle with a result that is part defeat, part triumph.

The Lawrence production will feature Walt Boyd as Atticus Finch, Naomi Brakenhoff, Sam Hay and Ryan Leibold as the children, Scout, Jem and Dill. Genee Figuieras will play the housekeeper, Calpurnia, with Brent Barbee as Tom, and Isabel Herrman as Mayella, his accusor. Two Lawrence attorneys, Terry Campbell and Michael Tubbs will take the roles of Mr. Gilmer, the prosecutor, and Rev. Sykes.

Additional cast members will include Betty Laird, Brenda Henson, Charlie Neuringer, Dean Bevan, Don McIntyre, Doug Wasson, Eileen Hart, Jacob Schooler, Jeth Brakenhoff, John Mosher, William Mockry, Darby Lohrding and Judith Scheff.

The show is under the direction of Piet Knetsch with assistance from Mary Ann Saunders. Set design is by Jack Riegle, lights by Ron Chinn and costumes by Lisa Greenwood.

Opening night audiences are invited to a reception at 6:30PM, April 8 catered by GemStone.
There will be a talkback after the April 21 performance led by
Dr. James Carothers.
