URGENT CASTING: Hey Mom, I Got Engaged Play (Non-Union, Paid)

Looking for two Asian women to play Maya (mid- to late-20s) and Maya's Mom (character is 40s to 60s but actor age is flexible) in "Hey Mom, I Got Engaged," a one-act play. Logline: A week after Maya accepts Tricia’s engagement proposal to her, Maya rescinds the proposal because she can’t face how her traditional Asian mother will react to it. On a park bench under the setting sun, Tricia, Maya, and Maya’s mom face the truths that they have been avoiding so that they can finally begin to heal together. This iteration of "Hey Mom, I Got Engaged," previously presented at The Tank in June 2026, transforms the production from a traditional stage performance into a site-specific experience in a NYC Park. The play unfolds entirely around a single park bench at sunset. Rehearsals: We anticipate between 10-15 hours of rehearsal between September 18-25.

Afraid to come out to her parents, especially her mom, and goes to the extreme to avoid telling them, only to finally reveal her secret and begin to make peace with who she is. [Maya’s Mom] 40s to 60s, Asian woman. A stubborn and traditional woman who starts to come around to Tricia and accept who Maya is because of her love for her daughter.
