Rattlestick Theater Invites Playwrights to Apply for

the Van Lier New Voices Fellowship for its 2023-2024 Cycle With the support of The New York Community Trust and the Jerome Foundation, the Van Lier New Voices Fellowship application is now open for submissions through February 6th, 2023. After being rehomed from the Lark Play Development Center upon its closure to Rattlestick Theater, this fellowship is committed to providing substantial support to two playwrights of color under the age of 30yrs-old annually. It is worth noting that our awarded Fellows for the 2022/23 cycle are May Treuhaft-Ali and Minghao Tu. 2023-2024 Selected Fellows Will receive:

$35,000 living stipend

$5,000 artistic fund to support career development

Mentorship with a veteran playwright

Workshops and readings of their work

Participation in Rattlestick’s dynamic artistic communities and programming Timeline:

Applications will be accepted through February 6, 2023

Finalists will be notified in spring 2023.

The 2023-2024 Fellowship period begins June 1, 2023 and ends May 30, 2024 Criteria of Eligibility for Selected Fellows:

30 years old and under from June 2023-May 2024.

BIPOC-identifying

Expected to prioritize the Fellowship, and use it as an opportunity not only to share existing work, but to also explore new work in development.

Must reside in–or within a 30 mile radius of–New York City.

To be committed to a minimum of 15-20 hours per week for research, writing, readings and meetings related to the Fellowship

Cannot be a student during the period of the Fellowship

Priority will be given to applicants who do not have other time-intensive writing commitments during the duration of the Fellowship *Note that each applicant can only submit one application
