Steppenwolf Theatre Company Props Department is currently seeking applications for overhire props artisans to work on productions for our next season. We are most urgently looking for artisans who could start as early as June 2024, but we are also looking for applicants for other projects that will come up throughout the 2024-2025 season. This is an hourly position that reports to the Properties Director.



The Steppenwolf Props Department values mutual respect, clear communication, curiosity, and a commitment to excellence.



Tasks include the following:

• Pulling hand props and furniture from stock

• Altering or creating properties from scratch

• Shopping

• Dressing the set

• Providing rehearsal props

• Keeping work and storage areas clean

• Other production-related projects as they come up



Successful candidates will be able to do the following:

• Complete notes with an eye for quality and efficiency.

• Have good time management and organization with the ability to monitor the pace of work and meet deadlines.

• Communicate with supervisor and other team members to ensure projects are on track.

• Be able to work collaboratively with a team as well as accomplish tasks on their own.

• Lift 50 pounds (We move furniture quite often.)

• Have a valid driver’s license and car (desirable). Our work happens at the scene shop, the theatre, and we often need to go pick up things from various vendors.



Compensation:

Hourly rate for this position is $22.55-$25.00 depending on experience.
