Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the full-time position of Master Electrician. The Master Electrician works as part of the lighting team and is responsible for assisting the Lighting Supervisor in the installation and maintenance of lighting equipment for productions, supervising work calls, organizing and maintaining equipment, and maintaining a safe work environment.



The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

• Advanced modern lighting knowledge, including DMX-controlled devices, moving lights, rigging practices, computer networking, and special effects equipment

• Experience programming EOS family consoles and associated network equipment

• Proficient knowledge of Vectorworks Spotlight and Lightwright 5 (or higher)

• Working knowledge of power tools and hand tools

• Strong organizational and time management skills

• Ability to work independently and multi- task

• Knowledge of safe practices relevant to fall protection, electricity, and counterweight rigging systems

• Ability to frequently lift and carry objects weighing 50+ lbs

• Must have a valid driver’s license

• Substantial professional experience in stage lighting is preferred. Candidates with equivalent experience and expertise will be considered

This position reports to the Lighting Supervisor.



Responsibilities:

• Leading staff electricians as well as overhire lighting crews for load-in, notes, and strike call

• Collaborating with designers to achieve their vision for all productions

• Trouble-shooting and prioritizing notes before, during, and following technical rehearsal

• Preparing plots, rental packages, and other paperwork for load-ins

• Collaborating with Lighting Supervisor, Stage Supervisor, Audio Supervisor, and Scene Shop Supervisor on a regular basis to ensure safe and efficient installation, and strike of lighting equipment

• Programming and Running of subscription shows and special events as needed

• Maintaining lighting and projections inventory by tracking equipment and supplies and doing hands-on maintenance as required

• Maintaining a safe and tidy work and shop environment

• Maintaining fall arrest/prevention equipment

• Performing other duties and responsibility as assigned by Lighting Supervisor



Compensation: This Salary for this position is $53,000 per year with excellent benefit package for full time employees, including medical, dental, vision insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, vacation pay, paid sick time, personal days, Ventra transit benefit program, employee assistance program and 401(k) matching retirement program.
