Flying V - Part-Time Marketing Manager - Flying V

LISTING INFORMATION

Flying V is seeking a Marketing Manager for our team!

JOB GOALS

The full job description can be found here: LINK. In general, this role will work with Flying V Leadership to manage the marketing of Flying V’s production and education events.

The Marketing Manager will be responsible for leading the marketing support for the Flying V and its social media and communications needs. They will oversee: consistency in messaging across social media and print platforms, the distribution and drafting of e-blast communication, the company-wide marketing calendar, and marketing content & its release.

WHO WE ARE

Flying V is a performing arts organization specializing in pop culture infused works that span theatre, digital media, and stage combat/professional wrestling. We are known for larger-than-life moments on small stages, and immersive world building that connect audiences, regardless of medium, with the stories we tell as well as each other.

Flying V works under a Shared Leadership model. Instead of recognizing one head of the organization to whom the entire staff answers, the Flying V Leadership team is composed of a group of three Artistic Leads (one for each “wing” of FV programming), and an Administrative Lead (our executive director). This model, and a strong focus on Voice dynamics in the organization, helps to inform the way work is shared and distributed on a day to day, and seasonal basis, and helps to also give us a framework that is inherently more equitable than hierarchical leadership models. Beyond our framework, Flying V has been intentional about building a diverse and intersectional leadership team. We are continuing to work to set up further internal and external structures and policies to support the safety of non-white, non-cis, and non-male collaborators and staff in our spaces of administration and production.

To avoid confusion and burnout, the Leadership Team has worked to set up a communication pathway for this Position that includes group discussion and e-mail communication as needed. We’re hopeful this pathway is respectful of the associate producer’s time and helps to bring the position into regular connective conversation with the whole team.

WHO YOU ARE

Someone passionate about making art happen, who is excited about the art Flying V creates, but also enthusiastic about how we’re working to create it. We have spent 2020 and 2021 working to create a space that not only values all voices, but has restructured itself around empowering individuals at all levels of decision making. Flying V strongly encourages women, people of color, LGBTQ individuals, people with disabilities, members of ethnic minorities, foreign-born residents, and those with other visible and invisible minority identities to apply for this position.

COMPENSATION This stipend-based position will be paid $525 per month. This represents compensation for roughly 5-10 hours of weekly work for 42 weeks of the year. Flying V is dark July 1-August 12th, and also for the month of December. Part-time staff are given this time off, though their paychecks continue. The Marketing Manager will work with the Executive Director to make sure any necessary marketing rollout/communications are still implemented during the dark periods.

Additionally, Flying V recognizes that in independent arts production, there are often unforeseen shifts in the needs of projects. Our current staff and voice model recognizes these things in this way:

We recognize that workload may evolve and creators may be asked to take on activities and/or roles developed during the course of the work being created. We agree to make space for discussion around expectation shifts and make sure that they are implemented in democratic agreement so that we can build consent into the workload of all collaborators. We will honor each other's time and energy, encouraging each other to work within our limits and be open about our physical and emotional capacity to do the work. As a group we commit to supportive group practices inclusive of accountability as needed. Any changes in workload will not manifest in a significant increase in labor without adjustment in compensation. We acknowledge that transparent budgeting for all collaborators empowers us to make well-informed creative choices and understand our own compensation in context. As such, we agree to discuss budgets and limitations openly and often as they change.

NEXT STEPS AND TIMELINE:

For best consideration, please submit a resume, brief cover letter of no more than a page, and one example of a piece of marketing you find particularly engaging/effective to employment@flyingvtheatre.com, by January 31st for best consideration. Materials will be reviewed by the Artistic Leadership Team and the Executive Director, and, if needed, interviews will be scheduled by the end of the following week. Our goal is to have a hiring decision made, and all applicants contacted, by early February.
