Costume Designer - La Comedia Dinner Theatre

La Comedia Dinner Theatre in Springboro, OH is seeking a resident Costume Designer and Costume Shop staff. Upcoming shows include Wedding Singer, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, and Something Rotten.



Designer will pull from large existing stock and design/build/pull costumes as needed for 8 mainstage and 3 small children's shows each year.



This is a full time, hourly position with overtime during tech weeks. $20-$25/hr based on experience

Responsibilities include:

• Establish and maintain familiarity with large costume stock

• Using stock as base, design costumes for upcoming productions and pull pieces or design new pieces as needed

• Attend all costume fittings and assist with alterations, repairs, and quick-rigging

• Create costume plot for each actor in collaboration with production team

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of costume storage, costume shop, dressing rooms, and all wardrobe areas

• Assist in maintaining all garments during the run of a show and assist in necessary repairs and upkeep

• Ensure costumes are clean, repaired, steamed, and performance-ready. Following close of production, wash, dry and sort laundry, label items, clean and store costumes, hats, shoes and accessories properly

• Load-in and Strike costumes for all productions

• Pulling, altering, or building soft goods for set décor including curtains, table cloths, and bedding



Applicants should possess:

• Working knowledge of costume design, construction, and costume shop operations as well as experience working with theatrical and historical costumes

• Patterning experience and ability to convey information to others

• Machine and hand sewing skills

• The ability and willingness to climb a ladder

• The ability and willingness to lift, carry and move multiple costumes at a time up and down stairs (including boxes weighing up to 50 lbs)

• Comfort working with a variety of fabrics, including vintage and delicate fabrics

• Excellent time management and organizational skills

• Housing & reliable transportation in the Dayton/Cincinnati area
Salary: $20-25/hr
