ACTORS- Mermaid Hour by David Valdes - Moonbox Productions

LISTING INFORMATION

Moonbox Productions is seeking Non-Union actors for its upcoming production of MERMAID HOUR, by David Valdes, directed by Bridget Kathleen O’Leary.





Rehearsals begin on March 18, 2024. We will rehearse 20-25 hours/wk. Performances will take place at Arrow Street Arts from April 25 – May 19, 2024. All actors will receive a $2700 stipend for their work.



If you are interested in auditioning, please prepare a 1-2 minute contemporary monologue. Auditions and callbacks are taking place on October 28th and 29th from 12-4pm at a TBD location (accessible by public transportation). Submissions should include “MERMAID HOUR Casting” in the subject line and be sent to submissions@moonbox.org



Mermaid Hour

Violet Bardisa-Nickerson: 12-year old trans femme. Mixed ethnicity. Fiery and mature for her age, on the brink of beginning puberty blockers. Has YouTube-star dreams and a crush on her bestie. The actor in this role must be played by a trans female. Can be played by a teenager/young actor as long as they read as pre-teen.



Pilar Bardisa: Vi's mother, in her 30’s. A nurse's aid who thinks she rocks being a mom right until she gets tripped up by conflicting information around gender affirmation. Cuban-American. Must be played by a LatinX actress.





Jacob Endo: a 12-year old boy. Japanese-American. He is gay, out, cool by the standards of his small town, and best friends with Vi. Can be played by an Asian American actor. Can be played by a teenager/young actor as long as they read as pre-teen.





Mika Endo: Jacob's mother, in her 40’s. Japanese-American. Loving but sharp, protective of her gay son, and has no time for nonsense. Must be played by an Asian American actor.





Crux Dumay/Merperson: 20-30’s. Artist-activist who promotes self acceptance for queer kids on social media; also a grad student. Nonwhite. The actor must identify as gender queer/non-binary.


Salary: $2700
