This year's “Broadway Day in the Schools” event will take place at P.S. 084 Lillian Weber, on June 12, 2025.
Inside Broadway will debut a new acting program for New York City public school students, “Broadway Day in the Schools,” which will bring professional Broadway performers directly into the auditorium and provide an insider's look into individual careers starting from their first introduction to the performing arts, education and training, audition experience, and ultimately landing on Broadway. This year's “Broadway Day in the Schools” event will take place at P.S. 084 Lillian Weber, located at 32 West 92nd Street in Manhattan on June 12, 2025.
“Over four decades of working in the NYC public schools, we have noticed a special interest by our students in actors – what they do, how they got here and what their lives are like,” said Michael Presser, Founder & President of Inside Broadway. “We felt that the best way to help our students understand this special career was to bring live actors into the school setting, offering students a first-hand look on how each individual actor was first inspired to pursue a career in the performing arts, overcoming the inherent challenges that may come with it, and being able to realize their dreams today.”
The 45-minute-long program is designed to teach students about performing arts education, careers on stage, and what it takes to succeed in the professional theatre world. Hosted by Inside Broadway's Artistic Consultant Marc Tumminelli, the session will feature two professional actors on Broadway or from a National Tour. The actors will talk about their education, first auditions, how the audition process works, their credentials, and careers. They will also perform two songs each, accompanied by tracks or piano, followed by a general Q&A session with the students and photo ops.
The kickoff at P.S. 084 in Manhattan on June 12, 2025 will feature Thayne Jasperson and Kayla Davion. Thayne is currently starring in Hamilton on Broadway and has been part of Hamilton since the very first performance. Thayne has also been in theater, film and TV including Newsies, Matilda, West Side Story, High School Musical and “So You Think You Can Dance Season 4.”
Kayla most recently starred on Broadway as Jovie in the 2024 revival of Elf at the Marquis theater. Other Broadway shows include The Tina Turner Musical as Tina, Waitress the Musical, King Kong Alive On Broadway, as well as TV “The Good Fight” and film "Better Nate Than Ever."
Throughout the year, Inside Broadway features a variety of other diverse programming for NYC public school students, funded by The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and The New York City Council as a part of the Council's CASA grant program, including the 12-week annual professional touring production at NYC school auditoriums throughout the five boroughs; the in-school “Build A Musical” program where the kids are the stars; an intensive summer musical theater camp; and the popular Creating the Magic – when students learn about what goes into “creating the magic” of a Broadway show in Times Square with a presentation of various career opportunities both on and off stage.
