Sam Harris, Star Search Grand Champion and Broadway star, will work one-on-one with participants in this intimate and supportive class designed to help participants delve more deeply into a song and strengthen thier live performance. He will provide insight and coaching in such areas as lyric interpretation, phrasing, connecting with the audience and acting, in order to help to bring the story of the song to its greatest potential.

Even if participants don't sing for Sam, they will learn valuable skills from watching Sam work with others.

The afternoon will include an interactive question and answer session with Sam, providing a unique opportunity to ask the questions and gain insight about what it takes to make it as a performer.

Master Class Time: Saturday, January 14, 2012 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM

Classes are free and open to the public from high school aged students through adults.

*An accompanist will be provided. Songs should be memorized. Please bring sheet music in the correct key. No accompaniment CD or tapes please.

Sam Harris’ diversified career has run the gamut from singer and songwriter to actor on Broadway, film and television to writer, director and producer. Sam’s big break was when he won the premier season of Star Search, with his show-stopping rendition of “Over The Rainbow.” Since then, he has become a multi-platinum recording artist with 9 studio CDs to his credit including Sam Harris, Sam-I-AM, Standard Time, Different Stages, The Best of the Motown Sessions, Revival, On This Night, Sam Harris Live! – The Best of Christmas and Free. He performed at New York’s Carnegie Hall, Los Angeles’ Universal Amphitheatre, London’s West End. He has also performed at the White House several times and on numerous talk shows. On Broadway, he starred in Tommy Tune’s Grease, Cy Coleman’s The Life, Mel Brook’s The Producers. He has also performed in the national tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, as well as productions of Jesus Christ Superstar, Cabaret, Hair, Pippin, The Jazz Singer, The First Wives Club and self-penned shows Hard Copy, Different Hats, Revival, and Sam. He has also starred on television in The Class, Rules of Engagement and Extra! and in the films In The Weeds and Elena Undone. Sam co-wrote Down to Earth, Hurry! Hurry! Hollywood!, Love Letter to New York, and directed several segments of Michael Jackson’s 30th Year Anniversary and wrote Liza’s at The Palace.

The Cabaret is a professional, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The mission of the Cabaret is to elevate the cabaret art form; attract, develop and retain high-quality local performance talent; and provide a unique and important contribution to the city’s artistic and cultural life.

The Columbia Club is the premiere private city club in Indianapolis, located in the heart of downtown on Monument Circle.
