Phoenix Theatre of Indianapolis announces OLD JEWS TELLING JOKES opening October 23 on the Frank and Katrina Basile Stage. This production runs through November 23, 2014, with Bryan Fonseca serving as director. The production will be an Indiana premiere, with the play having had several hit runs in New York, Chicago, London, and elsewhere internationally.

Based on the website of the same name, this Off-Broadway hit comedy showcases five actors in a revue that pays tribute to and reinvents classic jokes of the past and present. Think you've heard them all before? Not this way. The show also features comic songs-brand-new and satisfyingly old-as well as tributes to some of the giants of the comedy world and to the OLD JEWS TELLING JOKES website, which inspired the show. If you've ever had a mother, visited a doctor or walked into a bar with a priest, a rabbi, and a frog, OLD JEWS TELLING JOKES will sit in the dark, give you a second opinion and ask you where you got that. You'll laugh 'til you plotz.

"OLD JEWS TELLING JOKES might be the most obvious example of shows this season that focus on comedy-I mean, 'telling jokes' is in the title. And I chose it because not only is it extremely funny, but it's a show that was brought to me by a number of actors who had seen it in various cities. It was the perfect project to get specific people involved, and I was thrilled to get them on board. One of the funniest people in town is Dan Scharbrough-nobody tells a joke like Dan, and nobody enjoys a good laugh like Dan. It was also a perfect piece for our friend, Adrienne Reiswerg-who has been involved with us in various capacities over the years, but hasn't been on the Phoenix stage as an actor in decades. The show is just a really fun homage to an entire genre. When we look at the lineage of some of the humor, we find that there's a lot of substance to the piece itself beyond just the funny jokes." -Bryan Fonseca, Phoenix Theatre Producing Director
