CCP Receives Second Arts Grant This Week

The New Year is off to a great start for Carmel's community theater. Just days after the City of Carmel approved a $5,000 grant from the 2009 Support the Arts Fund, Carmel Community Players received word from the Arts Council of Indianapolis today that it was awarded another $5,000 grant from the Indianapolis Cultural Development Commission.

"All of us at CCP are very happy. We've worked so hard these past several months and this is another reward for our efforts to think outside the box," says president Michael T. Long.

The Indianapolis Cultural Development Commission's Selection Committee recommended a Fast Track Grant to assist with CCP's 2010 fundraising project, "An Evening with Ben Vereen" to be held on Sunday, March 7th at 7:00 p.m. at Carmel High School's Dale E. Graham Auditorium.

"Our goal is to reach out beyond Carmel with this event as well as our future productions at the Carmel Community Playhouse at Clay Terrace. CCP wants to become a destination where people will take time away from their busy lives to enjoy live theater and other performing arts events while taking in restaurants, shopping and other local attractions," says Brian Koning, CCP's marketing and public relations director.

In early December, CCP announced that it was bringing Tony Award-winning actor, singer and dancer Ben Vereen to Carmel High School in March for "An Evening with Ben Vereen". Vereen, who has starred on the Broadway stage, on television and in movies, will present his Broadway Lecture/Performance.
