On October 18, 20 and 21, superstar Chinese pianist Lang Lang will make a rare, multi-concert appearance performing three different Beethoven piano concertos, a different one each night. Lang Lang will perform Beethoven's Piano Concertos Nos. 2, 3 and 5 with the Houston Symphony led by exciting young Spanish conductor Pablo Heras-Casado. Featuring the joyful second concerto to the dramatic third and the epic Emperor, the weekend's concerts will allow audiences to explore in depth Beethoven's piano repertoire. Additionally, Lindberg's edgy 2009 composition EXPO and Schumann's romantic and beautiful Symphony No. 4 will provide colorful and lively bookends to each performance.

Lang Lang made his Houston Symphony debut as a young rising star of the classical music world in a 1999 Miller Outdoor Theatre concert. Since then, the now 30-year-old pianist has played sold-out recitals and concerts in every major city in the world. Described as the "hottest artist on the classical music planet" by The New York Times, Lang Lang has inspired millions of Chinese children to play classical piano. Aside from his orchestral performances and recitals, Lang Lang has performed in Beijing's opening ceremony for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, the 2008 Grammy® Awards, pairing with jazz great Herbie Hancock, and the White House State Dinner for Chinese President Hu Jintao in January 2011.
