Liz Callaway and More to Join Houston Symphony in Tribute to Carole King, 11/20-21
Led by Principal POPS Conductor Michael Krajewski, the orchestra will perform the music of the singer-songwriter whose life and career inspired the 2014 Broadway hit show Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. Tony Award nominee Liz Callaway will interpret some of King's biggest hits, including "You've Got a Friend," "So Far Away" and "Natural Woman." Callaway has performed in several Broadway shows, including Miss Saigon and Cats, and has also lent her vocal talents to the animated film screen, singing "Journey to the Past" in Anastasia and voicing Princess Jasmine in the Aladdin sequels.
Guest vocalist Bryce Ryness was most recently in Houston for the national tour of Matilda, where he played the role of Miss Trunchbull. An experienced actor and vocalist, he has sung backup for Josh Groban, Roger Daltrey, and Sarah Brightman, as well as appeared in television shows including "Law & Order: SVU," "Peter Pan Live!" and the "Tonight Show."
Actor and vocalist Allison Blackwell recently performed the role of Fantine in Dallas Theatre Center's production of Les Miserables. She has performed on Broadway in The Lion King and was a cast member on Live from Lincoln Center's Emmy-winning production of Sweeney Todd starring Emma Thompson. All three guest vocalists will be making their Houston Symphony debut.
The concert will take place at Jones Hall for the Performing Arts, 615 Louisiana Street, in Houston's Theater District. For tickets and information, call (713) 224-7575 or visit www.houstonsymphony.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the Houston Symphony Patron Services Center in Jones Hall (Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.). All programs and artists are subject to change.
