Bit of a Stretch Theatre Co. to Present Regional Premiere of MYTHS AND HYMNS, Begin. 8/8

By:

This summer, Bit of a Stretch Theatre Co. (winner of 2012 Houston Press Award for Best New Theatre Company) will be staging the Regional Premiere of the song cycle MYTHS AND HYMNS, written by Adam Guettel (LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA).

In MYTHS AND HYMNS, Guettel uses his vast musical vocabulary to touch on themes of desire, longing, and a search for spiritual understanding, sung from a diverse range of perspectives. The lyrics were inspired by Greek mythology and a 19th Century Presbyterian hymnal; the music seamlessly moves from genre to genre, in order to accommodate the broad range of human experience. MYTHS & HYMNS reflects on humanity's age- old struggle to connect with something or someone greater in our restless search for enlightenment.

Directed by Emma Martinsen, with Music Direction by Wiley DeWeese, the cast features Erin Cressy, Hunter Frederick, Abby Seible, Tamara Siler, Eduardo Tecero, and Brad Zimmerman

MYTHS AND HYMNS will be staged at Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, 4001 Stanford St., 77006.

Performance dates/times:

August 10 & 11, 2:00
