O'OKALA 100 to Come Alive on the Paliku Theatre Stage This October

By:

One black night, near an old abandoned plantation town by the sea, two cousins lost in the darkness unknowingly cross a supernatural threshold. Directed by Taurie Kinoshita, 'O'okala 100 will come "alive" on the Paliku Theatre stage October 23 through October 30, just in time for the Halloween season.

In Hawaiian mythology, leina (the 'leaping place') were believed to be portals to another world. After the cousins cross over a supernatural threshold, they encounter ghosts from different backgrounds and time periods over the past 100 years of Hawai'i's history who have gathered nearby drinking and relentlessly reliving moments of pain and joy in their life.

Playwright Susan Soon He Stanton is an award-winning playwright and screenwriter in New York. Her work has appeared at Clubbed Thumb, East West Players, Playwrights Horizons, Kennedy Center, The Flea, Southern Rep, Joe's Pub, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Perry Mansfield among others. 'O'okala 100 is directed by award-winning, 25-years, more than 100-shows theatre veteran Taurie Kinoshita, who has also staged critically acclaimed work in London and NYC, and features WCC's Theatre 260 students -- many acting for the first time onstage. A post-show discussion will be held on Saturday, October 24.
